Crispy on the outside, and soft and chewy on the inside—halloumi fries are seriously addictive!
This salty, squeaky cheese holds its shape beautifully when fried, making it the perfect snack, side dish, or party appetizer.
Whether you’re serving them with a dipping sauce or just eating them straight off the plate, halloumi fries are guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser. Let’s get started!
What You’ll Need:
Main Ingredients:
1 block (8 oz) halloumi cheese
1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or cornstarch for extra crispiness)
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt (optional—halloumi is already salty)
Oil for frying (vegetable, sunflower, or canola)
For Serving:
Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Lemon wedges
Dipping sauce (yogurt dip, sweet chili sauce, or tzatziki)
How to Make It:
Step 1: Prep the Halloumi
Pat the halloumi dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. This helps it crisp up better when fried. Slice the block into thick fry-like strips, about ½ inch wide.
Step 2: Coat the Fries
In a shallow bowl, mix the flour (or cornstarch), smoked paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt. Toss the halloumi fries in the mixture, ensuring they’re well coated on all sides. Shake off any excess flour.

Step 3: Heat the Oil
Pour enough oil into a deep frying pan or pot to submerge the fries about halfway. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches around 350°F (175°C). If you don’t have a thermometer, drop a little flour in—if it sizzles immediately, the oil is ready.
Step 4: Fry the Halloumi
Carefully place the halloumi fries in the hot oil, working in batches so you don’t overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2–3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy. Use tongs or a slotted spoon to flip them gently.
Step 5: Drain and Serve
Once crispy, transfer the fries to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve immediately with lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauce.
Tips for the Best Halloumi Fries:
Dry the cheese well – Removing moisture helps it crisp up better.
Use cornstarch for extra crunch – It creates a lighter, crispier coating than flour.
Don’t overcook – Halloumi gets tough if fried for too long, so keep an eye on it.
Pair with dips – Try sweet chili sauce, garlic yogurt, or harissa mayo for extra flavor.
Make them in the air fryer – Lightly spray with oil and cook at 375°F (190°C) for 10 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Halloumi fries are crispy, salty, and downright delicious. Whether you’re making them as a snack, side, or party favorite, they’ll disappear fast. Enjoy!💖👇
